FUNDING
My research examines the infrastructure, standards, and governance that support modern scholarly communication and data-intensive research. I am particularly interested in how research outputs can be made more interoperable, reusable, trustworthy, and sustainable across institutional and disciplinary boundaries.
Current areas of interest include scholarly publishing and open-access infrastructure; research data management and data publishing; FAIR and AI-ready scientific data; metadata, persistent identifiers, and research information systems; bibliometrics and research evaluation; repository and preservation infrastructure; and the design of sustainable community-governed scholarly systems.
A substantial portion of my work is grounded in agricultural, biodiversity, and genomic research communities. This includes standards for genome and gene nomenclature, biological database sustainability, scientific-literature interoperability, reproducible computational workflows, and cyberbiosecurity. I am especially interested in the points where disciplinary research infrastructure intersects with libraries, publishing systems, research computing, and institutional research policy.
More broadly, I study how scholarly communication systems can increase the useful flow of research information while reducing unnecessary cost, duplication, friction, and barriers to reuse.
