Kory A. Beighle, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Architecture at Kansas State University, where he teaches architectural design studios, history, and theory. His work as a scholar and educator explores the intersections of architectural tools, representation, disciplinarity, translation, and spatial narrative, with a particular interest in how the instruments architects use to think and make shape both design processes and architectural knowledge.
Beighle received his PhD in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati, where his doctoral research examined twentieth- and twenty-first-century architectural theory and theories of visuality. His dissertation, Architectural Alchemy: Collaging Disciplinarity in the Kaleidoscopic, investigated questions of disciplinarity and architectural tools through the interdisciplinary work of Charles and Ray Eames. His broader scholarship extends these interests through research on architecture and film, theories of translation, architectural pedagogy, and the relationship between media, perception, and design.
As an educator, Beighle is particularly interested in helping students connect thinking and making through processes of careful observation, drawing, analysis, and experimentation. He teaches across design studio, architectural history, and theory, including seminars exploring translation as a framework for architectural thought and practice. His teaching was recognized with Kansas State University's 2026 Commerce Bank and W.T. Kemper Foundation Undergraduate Outstanding Teaching Award. Across his teaching and scholarship, Beighle approaches architecture as an ongoing cultural conversation—one in which designers learn to critically engage the tools, ideas, histories, and narratives through which the built environment is imagined.
