Jeremy Marshall

Dr. Marshall’s engagement work connects Kansas State University entomology with high school students, agricultural educators, prospective college students, families, and the broader public. As State Coordinator for the Kansas FFA Entomology Career Development Event, he leads and continually improves statewide programming that helps young people explore insect science and its agricultural and environmental applications. He created free online Introduction to Entomology microcredentials for Kansas and Texas FFA students and teachers, covering insect morphology, classification and identification, biology, and applied entomology. In 2025, the general and Texas versions served 391 and 185 learners, respectively—576 participants in total—including Kansas FFA competitors and the Texas State FFA Entomology champions. He has also mentored high school FFA science-fair students, including a project that won its Environmental Science division at the Texas State FFA Science Fair.

Marshall also leads much of the public-facing recruitment for K-State’s B.S. in Entomology. He develops recruitment strategies and materials, participates in student visits, and represents the program at events across Kansas and throughout the country. These efforts include outreach in the Midwest, Texas, and California; printed and digital resources; targeted mailings; and personalized videos for admitted students. By Fall 2026, the program grew to approximately 65 majors, with students from 15+ states. Particularly strong recruitment results in Kansas, Missouri, and Texas, reflected sustained outreach in those areas. Across these activities, Marshall’s engagement combines public science education, youth development, workforce preparation, and relationship-building to create pathways that can lead students from an early interest in insects to university study and careers in entomology.
