ABOUt
Dr. Stephen E. Craig is a Professor and Department Head of Special Education, Counseling, and Student Affairs. Prior to his appointment at Kansas State University, he was a professor and unit director of counselor education at Western Michigan University from 1999-2024. Dr. Craig’s primary research and professional interests include counseling theory, Adler’s theory of Individual Psychology, ethics, and Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) for people with problematic substance use. His extensive leadership experience includes time as department chair and former roles as unit director of counselor education, past president of the North Central Association of Counselor Education and Supervision, and former member and vice-chair of the Michigan Board of Counseling. He has taught over 100 graduate-level courses representing 15 different courses. In addition to his extensive teaching and leadership experience, Dr. Craig has served as co-principal investigator or co-project director on grants totaling over $1 million dollars from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth, and Michigan Rehabilitation Services.
