Stephen E. Craig

Dr. Craig's research and professional interests include counseling theory, Adler's theory of Individual Psychology and its application to counseling supervision, ethical issues, and Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) for people with problematic substance use. He has served as co-principal investigator or co-project director on grants totaling over $1 million dollars from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth, and Michigan Rehabilitation Services. The SAMHSA-funded project (2015-2018, $526,192) was a collaborative endeavor where Dr. Craig served as co-principal investigator with two professors from Western Michigan University’s College of Health and Human Services (Dr. Tiffany Lee and Denise Bowen, PA-C) to provide training to students, counselors, counseling psychologists, physician assistants, and allied health professionals in Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to treatment (SBIRT) for people with problematic substance use. His principle roles in these projects related to the training of students and area licensed health professionals in clinical supervision and the SBIRT protocol.
