Payton Dahmer

Dr. Dahmer's research interests center on applied livestock production systems, with a focus on generating practical solutions that enhance animal performance, producer profitability, and workforce development. His scholarship spans multiple livestock species and integrates animal nutrition, reproductive management, growth performance, livestock evaluation, and management strategies that improve the efficiency and sustainability of animal agriculture. In addition to applied production research, Dr. Dahmer is interested in the science of experiential education and the development of future industry leaders. His work explores how hands-on learning, livestock evaluation, undergraduate research, and competitive educational programs contribute to student success and workforce readiness within animal agriculture. Despite holding a teaching-focused faculty appointment, Dr. Dahmer maintains an active and collaborative research program. His scholarly contributions include 39 peer-reviewed publications and research collaborations spanning swine, sheep, goat, and beef production systems. Through partnerships with faculty colleagues, graduate students, undergraduate researchers, and industry stakeholders, he seeks to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and practical application while creating meaningful opportunities for student learning and professional development.
