Dale A. Blasi

Executive Summary

 

Dr. Dale A. Blasi has served Kansas State University for more than three decades as a professor, Extension specialist, researcher, teacher, mentor, and industry leader in beef cattle nutrition and management. Throughout his career, he has played a significant role in advancing the university's land-grant mission through integrated programs in research, teaching, and Extension that have directly benefited the Kansas beef industry and cattle producers throughout the United States.

 

His work has focused primarily on stocker cattle production systems, receiving and backgrounding nutrition, forage utilization, beef cattle management, and the development of practical management strategies that improve animal performance, health, and economic sustainability. As a statewide Extension specialist, Dr. Blasi has translated scientific discoveries into practical recommendations adopted by producers, veterinarians, feedlot operators, nutritionists, and Extension professionals.

 

Educational Background and Professional Development

 

Raised on a farm and ranch near Trinidad, Colorado, Dr. Blasi earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences from Colorado State University in 1984, followed by a Master of Science degree in Beef Systems Management in 1986. He subsequently completed his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Ruminant Nutrition at the University of Nebraska in 1989. Following completion of his doctoral studies, he joined Kansas State University as a Livestock Specialist in South Central Kansas before transitioning to the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry in 1997 as State Extension Beef Specialist.

 

Leadership in Extension Programming

 

A defining feature of Dr. Blasi's career has been his commitment to Extension education. His appointment has emphasized statewide educational leadership focused on stocker cattle nutrition and management, forage utilization, and beef production systems. Through producer meetings, field days, workshops, publications, and individual consultations, he has provided science-based recommendations that have improved the profitability and sustainability of beef enterprises across Kansas and beyond.

 

Dr. Blasi has become one of the most recognized Extension voices in stocker cattle management, helping producers navigate changing economic conditions, feed resources, animal health challenges, and emerging technologies. His programs consistently bridge the gap between university research and on-farm implementation.
