Craig McGill

Dr. Craig M. McGill is an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education, Counseling, and Student Affairs at Kansas State University, where he teaches in graduate programs in academic advising and qualitative research. His scholarship focuses on the professionalization of academic advising, professional identity, and issues of equity and inclusion in higher education. A qualitative researcher by training, his work spans multiple methodological traditions and has resulted in an extensive body of scholarship, including books, peer-reviewed journal articles, and collaborative projects with graduate students and colleagues. Prior to his faculty career, Dr. McGill worked for nearly a decade as a primary-role academic advisor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Florida International University, experiences that continue to inform his teaching and research. He holds an Ed.D. in Adult Education and Human Resource Development from Florida International University, where his dissertation on the professionalization of academic advising received a best dissertation award. Through his teaching, research, and service, Dr. McGill contributes to advancing academic advising as a field of inquiry and practice, with an emphasis on bridging scholarship and real-world application.
