ABOUt
Dr. Steven Maxwell is Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Kansas State University, where he has built a distinguished career as a clinician, adjudicator, and soloist across the United States and Europe. He has performed at prestigious international venues including the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference and the U.S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Workshop, as well as numerous regional conferences spanning the Great Plains, Midwest, South Central, and Rocky Mountain regions.
An accomplished orchestral and ensemble musician, Dr. Maxwell has performed with the Topeka Symphony, Salina Symphony, Wichita Grand Opera, Chautauqua Festival Orchestra, Central Iowa Symphony, and the Fountain City Brass Band. In the chamber music arena, he has been a cornerstone of the Kansas State University Faculty Brass Quintet for over twenty-five years and performs as a member of the SYZYGY Trio, whose debut album was released in 2026.
Dr. Maxwell is a passionate advocate for new music in his field, having commissioned more than fifty works for solo tuba, solo euphonium, and tuba-euphonium chamber music. Six of these commissioned pieces are featured on his debut solo album, Pretty Please!, released in 2019. He is proud to be a Miraphone Performing Artist.
