ABOUt
Ryan Leimkuehler is an Associate Professor and University Archivist at Kansas State University, where he provides strategic leadership for the development and stewardship of the university's archival and records management programs. With over a decade of professional experience across academic, government, and public library settings, his work centers on archival administration, records and information management, digital preservation, and access to historically significant materials. He advises senior university leadership on compliance, policy development, and the long-term preservation of institutional records while supervising professional staff and student employees.
Ryan is an active educator, teaching graduate-level courses in archives and records management at Emporia State University and previously at Haskell Indian Nations University. His teaching emphasizes professional practice, ethics, preservation, and the evolving challenges of digital and administrative records. A Certified Archivist and Digital Archives Specialist, he is deeply engaged in national and regional professional organizations, including sustained leadership roles within the Society of American Archivists and the Midwest Archives Conference.
His scholarly and professional contributions include peer-reviewed publications, edited volumes, conference presentations, and invited workshops, often focusing on disaster preparedness/response, inclusive collecting, the role of archives in community memory and healing, and oral histories. Through research, teaching, and service, Ryan advances archival practice while fostering more inclusive and resilient historical records.
