Dr. Robert (Bob) L. Larson is a veterinarian, educator, and researcher specializing in beef cattle health, production medicine, and veterinary epidemiology. He currently serves as a Professor and the Edgar E. and Elizabeth Coleman Chair for Food Animal Production Medicine at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in the Beef Cattle Institute, where his work integrates animal health, production efficiency, and economic decision-making in beef cattle systems.
Dr. Larson earned his DVM (1987), PhD in reproductive physiology (1992), and BS in Agriculture (1985) from Kansas State University. Following early clinical experience in veterinary practice, he spent a decade at the University of Missouri in extension and teaching roles focused on beef cattle systems before returning to Kansas State University in 2006.
He is board certified in three disciplines: Theriogenology (animal reproduction), Animal Nutrition, and Veterinary Preventive Medicine (Epidemiology) - reflecting a career that bridges clinical reproduction, population medicine, and production systems. His teaching portfolio spans professional veterinary, graduate, and continuing education programs, with major roles in theriogenology and epidemiology instruction, as well as mentoring veterinary and graduate students across multiple degree programs.
Dr. Larson's research program, supported by substantial external funding, focuses on applied cattle health, disease prevention, and data-driven decision-making in livestock systems. He has contributed extensively to collaborative, multidisciplinary projects and has a strong record of graduate student mentorship and professional leadership.
