Jeffrey Smith

Jeffrey Smith is Professor of Geography at Kansas State University, Manhattan campus. He earned his Ph.D. in geography from Arizona State University in 1997 and joined the faculty at Kansas State University in 1998. Dr. Smith has published two books (Explorations in Place Attachment -- Routledge and Retreating to Nature -- Johns Hopkins Univ. Press), twenty-eight refereed journal articles, ten book or encyclopedia chapters, nineteen book reviews, and a co-edited textbook for World Geography. For twenty years Dr. Smith served as Book Review Editor for the Journal of Cultural Geography. In addition to securing twenty-two grants and fellowships, he has presented numerous papers at professional meetings and has been an invited speaker at fourteen colleges / universities. Dr. Smith has had eight Masters students, three Ph.D. students, and two Postdoctoral scholars complete their studies under his guidance. Over the course of his thirty years of teaching college/university level classes he has earned many teaching awards, including the 2004 Kansas State University Presidential Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and the 2017 Iman / K-State Alumni Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching.
