FUNDING
Dr. Dan Boyle is interested in multidisciplinary research, including, but not limited to, visual sciences, food safety, food sciences, nanosciences, microscopy, optics, LASERs, cells biology, developmental biology, ad biomedical sciences. Dr. Boyle is experienced in specimen preparations for microscopy, including negative staining, plunge freezing, chemical fixation, freeze-substitution, immuno-labeling, resin sectioning, sputter coating, and others. In addition, his experience includes conventional transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high resolution TEM, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), field emmission SEM, scanning TEM (STEM), focused ion beam (FIB), E beam lithography, light microscopy (phase contrast, differential interference, bright field, dark field), fluorescence microscopy, laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSM), super-resolution light microscopy, fluorescence recovery after photo-bleaching (FRAP), Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET), cryo-electron microscopy, SEM electron dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), and electron diffraction. Classes Biol 888 and 886 are offered to become familiar with equipment, microscopes, and techniques associated with electron, confocal, fluorescence, and light microscopies. Biol 888 electron microscopy class is offered during the Fall Semester of even-numbered years. Biol 886 light, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy class is offered during the Fall semesters of odd-numbered years.
