ABOUt

Christer Aakeroy received his initial academic scientific training at Uppsala University, Sweden (M.S.) and his doctoral degree in chemistry at the University of Sussex (DPhil) in the United Kingdom, before pursuing postdoctoral research at the University of Minnesota. His first academic appointment was at Queen's University in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He then accepted a position at Kansas State University, where he was promoted through the ranks. He is now a University Distinguished Professor and the Head of the Department of Chemistry. Aakeroy research has played a considerable role in transforming crystal engineering from a largely descriptive discipline into a predictive, design-oriented science. By elucidating the rules governing intermolecular interactions and demonstrating their practical utility, his work has influenced fields ranging from pharmaceutical solid-state chemistry to functional materials and coordination networks.
