Chad Schwartz

At the end of 2016, Professor Schwartz's first book, Introducing Architectural Tectonics: Exploring the Intersection of Design and Construction, was released by Routledge. The second edition of the book was released in August 2025. His second book, Situate, Manipulate, Fabricate: An Anthology of the Influences on Architectural Design and Production, was published in the fall of 2020. His current research builds on this line of thought, exploring the role of architectural tectonics in the development of both contemporary and historic architecture, as well as strategies for translating the theory of tectonics into practical and poetic activities in the university classroom of both contemporary and historic architecture. In the fall of 2020, Professor Schwartz was selected as the Regnier Faculty Research Chair in the Department of Architecture at Kansas State. His three-year term in this position was spent developing the framework for a new project examining the tectonic relationships between architecture and place in the Sonoran Desert region of Arizona, which will be disseminated in 2026 as his third book, Constructing Arizona: Embracing an Architecture of Place in the Sonoran Desert.
